WHAT IS POSSESSOR SIGNED BY BRANDON CRONENBERG, WINNER OF THE 2021 GÉRARDMER FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL

At the end of a competition which took place this year exceptionally online, the film “Possessor”, directed by the son of the Canadian David Cronenberg, won the Grand Prize on Sunday January 31st. Why has this horrific thriller won the praise of the jury chaired by director Bertrand Bonello?
“I hope you will have the opportunity to see these movies in room,” said the director of “Saint Laurent” and “House of Tolerance: Memories of the brothel” at the end of this 28 th edition upset due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Directed by Brandon Cronenberg, who follows in the footsteps of his father, author, among others, of “The Fly”, “Possessor”, which mixes horror and science fiction scenes, should be released in theaters next April if the sanitary situation allows a reopening of the rooms. He is interested in the hitman Tasya Vos who joins a secret organization, which has developed a technology allowing to slip into the body of a person, and to push him to commit crimes, such as suppressing the director of a big Society. But violence will supplant reason.closevolume_offhttps://www.youtube.com/embed/ahn56QWkD0Y
The cast of this film brings together the actors Andrea Riseborough, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Christopher Abbott, as well as Sean Bean who notably played the character of Ned Stark in the hit series “Game of Thrones” .
This disturbing feature film had already marked the spirits at the last Sundance Festival. In addition to the Grand Prix at Gérardmer, he was also awarded the prize for the best music composed by Jim Williams. In 2012, Brandon Cronenberg presented “Antiviral” in the “Un certain regard” section at the Cannes Film Festival. A first achievement which was familiar to horror and plunged the spectators into the universe of fans capable of paying dearly to inject themselves with the virus of their idols.
THE FRENCH FILMS “TEDDY” AND “LA NUÉE” ALSO ENTERED THE PRIZE LIST
Among the 30 films presented at the Gérardmer Festival, “Sleep” by German director Michael Venus was tied for the jury prize with “Teddy” by French directors Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma. This horrific comedy with Anthony Bajon, Christine Gautier and Noémie Lvovsky, which takes up the myth of the werewolf, also won the “young” jury prize.
The fantastic and horrifying drama “La Nurée” by Just Philippot, crowned with the public and critical prize, completes the prize list. This work features killer locusts who feed on the blood of their victims, and films the descent into hell of a mother of a family who sinks into madness and remains ready to do anything to save her loved ones. What to have an aversion for these carnivorous insects.
